Megan Cox

Megan Cox, Ph.D., teaches at the University of Central Oklahoma as an assistant professor of strategic and digital communication. Her research interests lie in exploring new digital and social media platforms, especially those gaining global popularity, in order to better reach and engage specific populations.

Megan has worked in many media-related jobs, including several years in Washington D.C. as a public affairs specialist for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s National Center for Health Statistics. While there, she joined an international task force to report on best practices for communicating statistics to the media and the public. Locally, she has written articles for the Edmond Sun and the Daily Oklahoman.

Megan earned her bachelor’s degree in mass communication from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs (2002) and her master’s degree (2007) and doctorate (2022) from the University of Oklahoma’s Gaylord College of Journalism and Mass Communication.

Oklahoma is the seventh state that Megan has called home, and she’s proud to be an “Okie.” She and her college sweetheart have been married for more than 20 years, and when she isn’t chauffeuring her two kids to school, taekwondo, hockey, music lessons and church, Megan enjoys training for long-distance races, traveling and writing. Her fun fact is that she is the 1999 Junior Ladies National Collegiate Figure Skating Champion, and she teaches skating lessons at Arctic Edge Ice Arena.
