Service

As a member of the faculty at the University of Central Oklahoma, I am committed to serving on committees and in other additional duties that support UCO’s mission “to help students learn by providing transformative education experiences to students so that they may become productive, creative, ethical, and engaged citizens and leaders serving our global community.” Consequently, I believe in serving our students and community in the following capacities:

Service in Undergraduate Research – In addition to my own research endeavors, I believe that students should be introduced early and often to research opportunities. That is why I serve on the UCO College of Liberal Arts Undergraduate Research Committee, whose responsibility entails managing a yearly conference to promote and support undergraduate research. Duties on the committee include planning the conference, judging papers, and managing the event itself.

Service in Transformative Learning (STLR) – UCO is a leader in transformative learning; therefore, I have already served several times as an independent supervisor for students working on STLR projects, and I have been honored to give all of my students a “transformative” rating.

Service in Faculty Screening – UCO is committed to hiring diverse and talented faculty members. Therefore, I will be joining a faculty screening committee this year to hire a generalist who can teach our core courses such as Intro to Communication and Fundamentals of Speech. I am honored to help recruit and hire a faculty member who can contribute to our campus community.

Service in Future Endeavors – One of the challenges that our strategic communication program faces is that students do not always know what strategic communication entails. My goal is to increase the visibility and interest in our program among local and nonlocal high school students.
